Aug 27 to Dec 12, 2019 – Policy Advocacy on Climate Change: Online Course

Learn How to Take Effective Action on Climate Change

Dates: August 27 – December 12, 2019.
Meet online each Tuesday evening from 8:00-9:30pm EDT.
Instructors: Dr. Abigail Abrash Walton & Clara Fang, MEM, MS.

The United Nations Secretary-General called the 6th Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report “an ear-splitting wake-up call to the world. It confirms that climate change is running faster than we are – and we are running out of time” (United Nations Secretary General, 2018). But how do individuals take action beyond reducing their own carbon footprint? How can we advocate for the policies that will help solve this global crisis?

This 1-credit graduate course will provide participants with step-by-step skills in utilizing the tools of democracy to take meaningful civic action on climate change. Participants will learn the levers for building political will and the essentials of climate change communication.

Participants will also engage in experiential learning by taking action. Participants will be introduced to environmental organizations that work on climate change and collaborate with them on advocacy, or create an action of their own.

Registration deadline: August 27, 2019.
