Nonoptimal temperatures pose major public health risks and contribute to preventable mortality. Climate change has intensified the frequency and severity of extreme weather events, disproportionately affecting vulnerable populations. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (2021 to 2023) noted that rising global temperatures coincide with more extreme fluctuations, including severe regional cold events. Although prior studies have examined heat- and cold-related mortality separately, nationwide evaluations across demographic subgroups remain limited.
