Health Community sends national leaders a prescription for a healthy climate

#HealthyClimatePrescription

The 2021 United Nations climate negotiations in November (COP26) are a critical moment and opportunity to put the world on a path that protects people from catastrophic climate change. The health community around the world is coming together to send a message to national leaders and country delegations, calling for real action to address the climate crisis.

HEALTHY CLIMATE PRESCRIPTION LETTER>

The Medical Society Consortium on Climate and Health—along with dozens of other health organizations brought together by the Global Climate and Health Alliance—will be sending a letter to heads of state worldwide, their ministers of health, and their representatives at COP26, asking them to take all necessary actions to avert the climate crisis and save millions of lives each year.

The letter will coincide with the publication of a joint editorial that will appear in over 220 health journals, worldwide—warning of the catastrophic harms to health from the failure to keep the global temperature rise below 1.5°C.

This unprecedented editorial will clearly signal the urgency of the crisis; health professionals—and representatives of health organizations—who read the editorial will be urged to sign the letter as individuals, or as an organization, respectively. Organizations will have a second opportunity to sign between September 6 and early October when we prepare to deliver the letter to world leaders.
