Call for Submissions: Images Highlighting the Health Implications of Climate Change

The New England Journal of Medicine’s Images in Clinical Medicine section invites submissions for the second annual Climate Change and Health theme to be published in April 2026 in recognition of “Earth Month”. We seek striking, high-quality clinical images that illuminate the growing and evolving impact of climate change on human health.

In our inaugural collection, we showcased the health consequences of extreme heat, shifting vector ecology, and more. We invite image submissions that capture the clinical manifestations of climate change. Submissions might include (but are not limited to):

  • Chest imaging of wildfire-related lung injury
  • Dermatologic findings of Lyme disease in a region previously free of Ixodes ticks
  • Physical injuries or infections following floods or hurricanes
  • Presentations of dehydration, heat stroke, or renal injury during heat emergencies
  • Cases of fungal or waterborne disease emerging in new geographic areas

We welcome images from all specialties and regions that reflect your clinical experiences on the front lines of climate-related health impacts. Each image should be accompanied by a concise legend and clinical explanation that places the case in the broader context of climate change and health.

How to Submit:

1. Follow the standard Images in Clinical Medicine submission process.

2. As part of the submission process, please select the “Special ICM Series” when prompted about special series selection.

Submissions will be considered on a rolling basis through January 5, 2026.
