GCCHE US Medical Education Working Group’s Residency Education Initiative

The Residency Education Initiative is a national collaborative effort focused on advancing the integration of climate change, planetary health, and health equity into U.S. graduate medical education (GME). This project will work across specialties to ensure that physicians are prepared to recognize, prevent, and respond to the health impacts of climate change and environmental degradation.

Participants will contribute to the group’s collective goals of integrating climate health into residency education. They will help develop recommendations for inclusion of climate and health content within ACGME core program requirements and specialty-specific residency standards. This work may involve collaborating with specialty societies, residency review committees, and accrediting organizations to advance educational standards, engaging with specialty board organizations to promote inclusion of climate-health concepts in board certification and maintenance of certification examinations and developing educational resources, competencies, curricular frameworks, and assessment strategies for residency programs
