Lawrence Burns DPM, of Nashville Tennessee, is an Associate Professor at Meharry Medical College, Department of Family & Community Medicine. He received his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from Scholl College in Chicago Illinois. His Surgical Residency program was completed at Lawndale Community Hospital North Philadelphia. Dr. Burns practiced in Chicago and taught at Scholl College of Podiatric College, from 1981 to 1991, where he taught in the Podiatric Medicine and Orthopedic departments. He also was the first Podiatrist to teach in the Anatomical Science department, Lower extremity dissection.

Dr. Burns received his Diplomate of the American Board of Podiatric Medicine in 1987. He has been a Fellow of the American Professional Wound Care Association, since 2005 and has participated in community and professional groups. He participated in the State of Tennessee Podiatric Association, where he became President for two years. He was appointed by the Governor to serve a three-year term, on the Tennessee Podiatric Licensing Board. Dr. Burns joined Meharry Medical College and is involved in a new Rural Residency program being developed, for Mississippi, the Delta.
